Gather Network Information

To set up the MX-7x0HD for wireless access to your network, start by opening up the wireless router configuration.

Write down the router's:

  • Netmask (usually 255.255.255.0)
  • IP addresses for other computers (eg. 192.168.0.10, 192.168.0.11)
  • If you are using WEP encryption to protect your network, make a note of the WEP key for your router.

Check your router's manual for specific instructions on accomplishing the above steps.

Improving wireless signal strength

Many members complain that the wireless strength is poor - here is a quick-fix that is said to improve the signal strength, according to a few members - it involves swapping the aerial lead to the auxiliary input of the MiniPCI wireless card:

  1. Open the box (2 screws) and take out the internal HDD (if fitted);
  2. Remove the black plastic HDD bracket - undo the 5 screws securing it in place;
  3. Follow the aerial lead from the aerial socket at the rear of the Mvix unit across the mainboard to where it ends - there will be a MiniPCI wireless card secured to the mainboard in a MiniPCI socket;
  4. There is a second, auxiliary aerial input on the wireless card, next to the one already in use;
  5. Swap the aerial socket to the auxiliary aerial input and put your Mvix unit back together.
