This was originally posted by Hein in "NDAS is cosmetic and useless function ?" topic. Just tried it and it works.
Go to http://www.benf.org/other/rapsody/
Install WinPCAP
Install the XIMETA software
Download and run the NDASScan binary from an MSDOS prompt. Take a note of the keys.
Follow the instructions in http://www.mvixusa.com/support/index.php?_m=knowle...

Re: Enable NDAS without paying extra for it 18 Sep 2007 1:38 PM EST/EDT - Post#2571
Hi,
After reading your explanation I got so excited, but I guess life and computers is never that easy. I followed your steps:
1. Downloaded and Installed WinPCAP
2. Downloaded and Installed XIMETA Software.
3. Rebooted my computer.
4. Downloaded and installed ndasscan.exe binary.
5. Went to command prompt and ran ndasscan.exe
and.... got the following:
C:\>ndasscan.exe
Version 3.11.1327.0 of NDASUSER.DLL present
Scanning for NDAS devices from rpcap://\Device\NPF_Gener icDialupAdapter
Adapter not connected, skipping
Scanning for NDAS devices from rpcap://\Device\NPF_{B1F9 1209-18CD-4E02-AF8E-D507
FB26A621}
Listen period expired.
Scanning for NDAS devices from rpcap://\Device\NPF_{F23A 089A-3A54-4D94-82D7-2231
6C3114F9}
Listen period expired.
-------
No NDAS HELO packets received
I did notice that the NDAS Device Manager Icon is present in my task bar on the right hand side.
I have also tried to run the ndasscan from c:/ from the ndas/system folder and from the ndas/drivers folder.
So here I am stuck on this step - is there any advice you can give me
Look forward to hearing from you.
Mike

To make this work on my system, then and now after enabling NDAS, even to use NDAS, I have to actually be accessing a file off the computer that NDAS resides on and then the helo packets show up as does (now that it it activated) the MVIx in the NDAS control panel gizmo

You have to have the latest firmware and you also need to enable Ndas in the setup menu for this to work. Otherwise I haven't a clue as I'm not exactly an expert and all I did was follow the link and guess my way through.

In response to TkBall
try ndasscan with forced mac, ie:
c:\blabla\ndasscan 00:08:08:E8:08:08:E8
seems it works, an id and a key are the results

It appears that method does not actually "search" for the ndas id, rather it is just showing it to you...
Here I randomly chose a bunch of letters & numbers. I do not have this MAC address on my network, yet it still gave a response.....
C:\>ndasscan 0c:2f:bc:98:50:d1
Version 3.20.1527.0 of NDASUSER.DLL present
Forcing MAC [0c:2f:bc:98:50:d1]
--------[Displaying NDAS Info]--------
MAC : 0C:2F:BC:98:50:D1
NDAS ID : RY4CQM2TMCHQC0EMTCGU
Write Key : DUY1A
This just shows what the ID + write key SHOULD be for that MAC....
however it does not actually prove that NDAS is running or that you even have that device on your network.
It's still helpful if you forget your ID & key. however, you shouldn't use that to troubleshoot anything.

Enable NDAS without paying extra for it 11 Jul 2008 2:37 PM EST/EDT - Post#6268
I believe NDAS needs to be ON from the Mvix GUI in order to get the NDAS ID & Write Key with the NDAS Scanner
NDAS Scan searches through your ethernet adapters and checks if they are connected to the network
